Karl Storz AV system for the Rosie

Having state-of-the-art ultrasound scanning facilities in the recently-opened new Rosie Hospital enables the clinical team to diagnose complex problems with babies at the earliest possible stage before birth.

Having such facilities co-located with both large numbers of patients and a high level of expertise makes the Rosie Hospital an ideal centre for ultrasound training and education. To make this possible, Karl Storz (Endoscopy) UK, provided an integrated system for transmitting both high-quality video images and sound in real time to the Rosie seminar room and, potentially, to other buildings via videoconferencing.

Karl Storz is renowned worldwide not only for its endoscopic sytems and integrated operating theatre design, but also for its philanthropic support of medical education. The company generously donated and installed the system, opening up opportunities for extending the Trust's ultrasound training programme.

Media Studio's Jerry Nayler was delighted to join Mr Gerald Hackett, Co-Divisional Director of Women and Children’s Service, Mr Jerry Brockelsby, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Chief Executive of CUH, Mr Keith McNeil, and former Trust Chairman, Dame Mary Archer for a reception to thank Karl Storz UK's Chief Executive Mr Mike Perks and his team for their generosity and expertise.

A demonstration of the equipment confirmed its huge potential for the team at the Rosie. This investment by Storz will allow them the opportunity to set up a fetal medicine master class, transmitting this learning regionally, nationally and potentially internationally, thus benefitting patients across the globe.
