The project is part of continuing work by Media Studio's Graphic Design Team Leader Louise Stubbings, in conjunction with the Estates Department, to improve the signage and wayfinding throughout the hospital. There are also maps on levels 2 and 3 to help patients and visitors find their way around the site. These are supported by updated external signage and a leaflet ‘Finding your way around’ which is available at the hospital reception desks and clinics. The design of easy-to-follow, colour-coded maps is a deceptively complex process on such a big site and with so much development going on in the hospitals they need to be reviewed regularly. While that means that our work is never really done we hope that these elegently simple maps will make the sight of hopelessly lost people wandering the corridors of the Trust a thing of the past.
